The job of the person who stepped out is to figure out who is in control of the beat. They get three chances to guess. Once the round has ended, another person will be sent out and a new leader will be chosen. We will likely do this for rounds, depending on how long each takes.
Yes, it is a fun activity, but it serves a purpose to our revision work. The whole thing must work together and transition smoothly for it to create a final project.

For the first revision activity, students will be taking time to proofread and revise their own works. They will keep these worksheets to either be turned in with their portfolio or keep in their Writers notebook. They will write these comments down in their journal log, below their own reflection questions. The purpose of this is to help each other see what is good about their work, and to see what needs revision.
At the twenty minute mark, I will ask them to stop working and share with the class certain parts of their partners writing that stuck out to them, or that was particularly good. Our final activity will be large peer group revisions.
In groups of five, the students will look at the Revisions Involves worksheet. They can look at this for about minutes to review what revision involves. For the remaining time, they will each take a turn reading a piece from their work that they are the most proud of, introduction, main paragraph, thesis, etc.
During this time, the other group member will each have 3x5 index cards. As the person reads, they will follow the format I put on the board and write down words that stick out to them, areas that seem confusing, and comment on the overall content of what their partners are writing.
Each student will get a chance to read and will collect the note cards from their peers.
